When the Met Office announced the first named storm of autumn as Storm Ashley, it felt like fate had a sense of humour. On the very day that our Ashleigh was due to marry Dan at the beautiful Sandburn Hall, near York, the wind and rain decided to make a dramatic entrance!
But, as every great love story goes, the storm passed. By the afternoon, the skies cleared and treated us to that soft, golden autumn light that photographers dream about. The 1000 acres of lakes, woodland, and golf course surrounding Sandburn Hall came alive with rich colours—perfect for some magical golden-hour shots. Sure, the wind was still a little wild, but it gave us some brilliant moments with Ashleigh’s veil flying about (thankfully, without taking her with it!).
This was my first visit to Sandburn Hall since they opened their new hotel and it’s absolutely stunning—modern, stylish, and perfectly designed for a wedding celebration. Dan got ready there, while Ashleigh and her bridesmaids stayed tucked away in the cosy Griffon Forest Lodges, just down the road, surrounded by trees glowing in their autumn hues.
Dan and Ashleigh were a joy to photograph—laid-back, fun, and up for anything (even braving the wind!). Their laughter was infectious, and their love shone brighter than the afternoon sun. Storm or no storm, this was one unforgettable Yorkshire wedding filled with warmth, joy, and a touch of wild autumn magic.
